EMIL von SAUER the COMPOSER Beautifully charming, if somewhat anachronistic music
The music of Emil von Sauer the Composer is full of charm, grace, and beauty, It is, unfortunately, not of the first rank, and was written at a time when the last of the great Romantics and the first of the great moderns were composing their immortal works for the piano. Von Sauer's own efforts have faded into what is probably a well deserved obscurity, resurrected from time to time with enthusiastic interest only to fade again. I am not familiar with the piano sonatas. But in spite of my desire to love these works because of my love for von Sauer's greatness as a pianist, the concerti are not really worthy of an active place in the repertoire.
