Next Nikolai Lugansky plays Rachmaninov excerpts. These are most interesting as we have a chance to see him practice and talk about the first three Rachmaninov piano concertos. Rarely does one get to hear the details of this music through the orchestra.

This is followed by two performances with Orchestra: a 2008 performance of the Rachmaninov third concerto at the Royal Albert Hall in London with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and a superb recording of the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sakeri Oramo.
