DENISE LASSIMONNE
English pianist (1903 - 1994)

Denise Lassimonne was a favorite pupil of the great English pedagogue Tobias Matthay who adopted her after the death of her father.  She was born in England of French parents, studied at London's Royal Academy of Music and later taught at Matthay's piano school and then at the Royal Academy becoming a Fellow of that August establishment in 1957.

Denise Lassimonne was a great admirer and friend of Dame Myra Hess and I think the influence of that great pianist can be heard in the one recording we have available to be heard, the Mozart Fantasia and Fugue in C major.

Mozart  Fantasia and Fugue in C major, K 394

recorded in 1941

For those of you who enjoy murder mysteries, here is my first with a strong musical polemic as background

Murder in the House of the Muse

which is also available as an audiobook.

And this is the more recently published second mystery in the series:

Murder Follows the Muse
